Meet The Therapist

Courtney Davey, MA, LMFT

I'm a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist from Philadelphia, PA. I have over 10 years experience working in mental healthcare having earned a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Temple University and a Masters Degree in Marriage and Family Therapy from La Salle University. As well, I am a Perinatal Mental Health Certified Provider. I have been fortunate in having diverse experiences that influence my approach working with individuals and couples on a variety of challenges including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, trauma, ADHD, high conflict, sexual dysfunction, pregnancy and postpartum issues.

I take a systemic approach to therapy, with individuals and with couples. Humans don't exist inside a vacuum, and our interactions with others impact how we understand and interact with ourselves, others, and the world. Each person or couple's situation is unique and the approach to supporting your goals must be tailored similarly. I utilize modalities including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness work, and psychoeducation to identify what parts of our approaches can be adjusted. I recognize that many of the experiences of anxiety, depression, and trauma have sources in our physiology, particularly the Central Nervous System, that can impact our responses to the world. I teach strategies to help the body to align back to responses that are consistent with our situations to reduce distress and help us manage our responses.

I utilize the Gottman Method of relational therapy, an effective, evidence-based model for couples to reduce conflict, increase intimacy and improve understanding and fondness in the relationship. Other orientations that can be integrated in include Emotion-Focused Therapy, Internal Family Systems, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Structural Family Therapy, Bowenian Family Therapy and Sensate Focus Therapy.

I am a straightforward therapist whose focus is on effectively helping individuals and couples reach the goals they are seeking.  Therapy at its core is about changing what is no longer serving us and growing towards what can. Change can be scary, challenging, and uncomfortable at times, and it is important to acknowledge that these can all be part of the therapeutic process. Honesty, investment, and accountability are all important components of my sessions alongside creating a space that is safe, responsive, reflective, and even humorous when we need to laugh at the ridiculousness that life can have to help make our goals for growth a reality. I look forward to being able to support you in your journey!
